Adams County Arts Council – Supporting the arts in Adams County, PA

Gingerbread Celebration

HACC, Gettysburg Campus

A gingerbread osprey on a pole soared to victory in the business category at the Adams County Arts Council’s Annual Gingerbread Celebration & Holiday Mart, December 1 and 2, 2017 at HACC Gettysburg Campus. Event co-sponsor Adams Electric Cooperative, Inc., which submitted the entry made by Linda Krut, gained national recognition for the measures it took to save the determined bird and its family, as well as customers, from peril. Main Street Gettysburg’s Lincoln Square entry won the School/Nonprofit prize. Sarah Dutton’s chapel was the public’s favorite in the home baker category. The event, co-sponsored by Kennie’s Market, featured 18 gingerbread creations and attracted a crowd of more than 1,200 people. Proceeds benefit programs for all ages at the Arts Education Center, 125 S. Washington St., Gettysburg. For more information on the 2018 Gingerbread Competition, please contact the office at 717-334-5006.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch and Encouragement Award

August 19, 2017

ACAC is deeply grateful to an anonymous donor whose gift allowed us to create a youth award. The Young Artist Encouragement Award gives a pat on the back in the form of a cash reward to 3-5 summer campers between the ages of 8 and 15. Camp instructors were asked to identify prospective candidates and a committee selected a final slate of awardees. The winners were announced during a reception on August 19, 2017.

The donor commented, “I am deeply impressed by the work of the ACAC, particularly its commitment to outreach and to spreading the joy of creativity and inventiveness in all its many forms. I wanted to do something to honor my mother and the opportunity to reach a younger, and possibly somewhat less exposed group of potential “artists” through the ACAC summer camps, seemed just right for this purpose.”
