The 19th century produced a wealth of classic fiction that is still enjoyed today.  This course explores the literary movements and historic events that inspired such extraordinary productivity.  We will discuss Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary and Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights as well as other key novels and their writers.  In addition, we will examine excerpts from these texts in order to capture their distinctiveness and contemporary relevance.  The class is limited to 12 participants.  Wine and cheese provided.
