The People Project: Stories of Social Distance

The People Project aims to take an audience on a well-crafted journey that celebrates diversity by giving voice to personal stories and experiences, in the form of original readings and performances. Since 2018, Lisa Cadigan has directed the project annually at Gettysburg College, featuring students and residents of Adams County. In the past, the project culminated in a live performance at the Stevens Theatre.

Converted now to an online writing workshop, students will craft a personal, first person essay to be performed as part of a Zoom video project. The class will focus on writing, editing, group feedback, and public speaking techniques for in front of the camera. Following completion of the class, students will receive an edited video of the final performance, including stories from each participant.

The theme for this People Project is “Stories of Social Distance.” We are all collectively experiencing the impact of COVID-19; but each of our experiences is different.
