Educational Services: Architectural Drafting Skills
Saturday, May 16, 10 am – 1 pm.
This course will introduce students to traditional hand drafting tools and techniques once utilized by architects. Through hands-on activities, participants will acquire fundamental drawing skills including line types, line weights, lettering, and shading (poché), and implement these skills by tracing simple plans and elevations. Target Audience: Aspiring architects, engineers, construction professionals, students, and those seeking to learn new drawing skills. Learning Objectives: Upon completing this session, attendees will:
1. Gain proficiency in traditional architectural drawing tools, including T-squares, triangles, and mechanical pencils.
2. Develop the ability to draw fundamental elements such as lines, line types and weights, circles, and arcs.
3. Acquire skills in basic lettering techniques using guidelines, styles, and lettering guides.
4. Execute tracing of simple plans and elevations integrating essential line elements, shading (poché), and fixture templates.
Class Length: 3 hours
Materials: All class materials and tools provided, and students take home drawings created during class.

Instructor bio
Tara Labosky, AIA, LEED AP, CCCA is the Owner of Luzerne
Consulting LLC, an owner’s representative firm that combines 30 years of experience in
architecture, construction management, and land development to successfully deliver
development projects. Ms. Labosky’s professional teaching experience encompasses several courses in construction management as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), as well as classes in blueprint reading at ABC Greater Baltimore’s Construction Education Academy. Additionally, she has volunteered her expertise to instruct sessions in architecture and construction for high school students through the American Institute of Architects (AIA), ACE Mentor Program, and the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). Course Description: Prior to the advent of computer-aided drafting and design (CADD), architects employed manual techniques, including paper and pencil, to create precise technical documents. These drawings were meticulously crafted for construction purposes but also represented a form of artistic expression that is increasingly rare.
