ARTIST STATEMENT
Art has always been part of my life. Growing up in Maine, the daughter of an artist, I was constantly “making things”, and the urge to create has never left me. I studied art in college, with a focus upon abstraction. Upon moving to Pennsylvania I became enamored with the landscape, using color boldly and expressively; I am unfailingly inspired by the beauty of our state’s forests.
Whether rendered abstractly or realistically, my goal is to bring the excitement of the outdoors into the indoor environment. Colored pencils have become a favorite medium; used on black paper, they allow me to create very intense patches of color almost as if they were tiles in a mosaic. Etchings are a relatively new interest; I am a member of the Penn’s Woods Printmakers and am fascinated by the exacting process of printmaking.
A highlight of my artistic ventures was a feature article in American Artist Magazine (April 2004). My works, both drawings and etchings, have been included in juried national competitions, and are represented in the permanent collections of regional institutions. I’ve shown them in solo shows throughout the Cumberland Valley, and, as an active member of the Franklin County Art Alliance and Penn’s Woods Printmakers, in galleries and exhibitions as well.
